On 6 September 2024, Oiseaux Imaginaires, the new album by Stefano Agostini and Guy-Frank Pellerin, was released on digital platforms.

It is a collection of “instant compositions” selected from material produced over 7 years, from 2016 to 2023, the result of research and in-depth work on improvisation. The recordings were made in the Cesare Chiti Auditorium of the Mascagni Conservatory and in the “La scala” hall in Castiglioncello.

Stefano Agostini
After many years of experience as first flute in lyric-symphonic orchestras, he has performed in concerts with various chamber ensembles in Italy and abroad. Interested in contemporary languages, improvisation and the relationship between music and other artistic languages, he collaborates with dance and theatre companies, jazz musicians and composers, experimenting with new forms of expression. At the same time, he has developed an interest in ancient flutes and their performance practices. He collaborates with the Autorivari Association, with whom he has made several recordings. From 1977 to 2021 he taught flute at the Conservatorio ‘P. Mascagni’ in Livorno, where he also gave workshops in contemporary music and improvisation and was its director from 2005 to 2013. He is currently a member of the improvised music ensemble ‘Tabula Rasa’ of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, directed by Stefano Battaglia.

Guy- Frank Pellerin

French-Canadian saxophonist, he began playing the saxophone in the early 1970s as a self-taught musician and immediately began improvising. He then studied at the I.A.C.P. in Paris with Alan Silva and played in his ‘Celestial Communication Orchestra’. He also studied and played with Steve Lacy. He has taught saxophone at the same I.A.C.P. and music at various dance schools and conservatories. His musical energy leads him to play and improvise not only with musicians but also with painters, actors, dancers and to produce music for dance. He has worked with jazz big bands and composed original music. He has played and collaborated with many musicians on the international improvisation scene. He has given improvisation workshops at the Conservatorio Mascagni in Livorno.
